    Tasia T.:
I was fresh out of high school, and I was working a 9 to 5 job. I wasn't really sure what I wanted to do. My great aunt had reached out to me and she was like, whatever you want to do, I'll help you out. Growing up with a big family, I think I've always kind of been a caregiver. So nursing was in the back of my mind.

Rasmussen University, they did a very, very good job of giving us the resources that we need. I reached out to some tutors online too, just to help me write papers. It was so helpful and my grades reflected that as well.

I wasn't really expecting to meet close friends like I did. We built a community pretty much right away.

Working in nursing homes and doing my clinicals, you get to know the family and the patient. You have to really get to know their personality, their likes, their dislikes, their nonverbal communication, you know, and just the sense of knowing what they want and don't want, I think builds a sense of trust. And I built a really good relationship, kind of in like a, a grandparent way, almost.

    Dr. Carrie Daninhirsch:
Please rise as I officially present the graduating class of 2025.

    Tasia:
With my LPN from Rasmussen University, I would love to go into pediatrics. I grew up with three little sisters, so I've always loved kids and just caring for them. After a 12 hour clinical, it's so nice coming home to a supportive family and one who I can actually spend time with and want to spend time with after such a long day.

My mom's my best friend, so I kind of go to her with anything that I have - any problems and issues, and she's always there to listen unconditionally.

    Tasia's mom:
She's going to be the first college graduate in our family. I can't wait to see what she does because I know she's going to go far.

    Tasia:
I tell my little sisters all the time, you know, that they have to try new things. And especially I say do it if you're scared, if you're scared to do it, do it anyway. It pushes yourself to go farther than you ever thought that you could. It pushed me to go farther than I ever thought I could.

I'm Tasia Thongratsamy and I am a Rasmussen University graduate.

At Rasmussen University, they have a lot of resources to help out, so I reached out to some tutors online just to help me improve my writing and things like that. It was so helpful, and my grades reflected that as well.

    Speaker 1:

My name is Arnold Bogerty, and prior to me enrolling in Rasmussen, I spent 16 years in the military, 12 in Special Forces as an army Green Beret. I ended up getting injured over in Afghanistan and that allowed me to retire a little bit early. My wife and I, we moved down here to Tampa, but there was an experience that kind of changed my life a little bit. A few years ago, I was diagnosed with vocal cord cancer. It was really a turning point.

I decided to become a nurse because of the care that was provided for me. I don't have too many fears in life, but I do fear of being forgotten. And I know that if you can do something to make an impact in other people's lives, you know, you leave a legacy. And I think that's the greatest satisfaction in the world, is to be able to impact somebody else. And that's what nursing does.

    Speaker 2:

The advice that, that I, I would give to Arnold to start a new career in nursing is to bring forward your previous experiences. And, um, because it would make him a very unique nurse, it would bring a different purpose and a meaning for him.

    Speaker 3:

When Arnold first told me that he wanted to become a nurse, it really took me by surprise. Within one week, he was ready trying to figure out what school he was going to go to. He within the month, he, he already started school within that month. Like he is just, he doesn't stop.

    Speaker 1:

I was recommended to Rasmussen by a former student, and she said she loved the culture. She said it was a family atmosphere. You weren't just a number. And so, I went to visit the campus and as soon as I walked in, the way we were greeted—I was actually greeted by another veteran and he showed me around the campus. And so that really made me feel right at home.

The facilities were amazing. I met with an enrollment counselor, and it was very simple. She was knowledgeable, knew exactly, you know, what the program had to offer. She answered all of my questions. I knew before I left if that was the school that I was going to attend. Well, in the immediate future with my degree, I plan on working at the hospital, you know, after I get my BSN. But I also plan on continuing my education as well.

The ultimate goal is to become a nurse anesthetist. You know, once my boys go off to school and me and my wife are empty nesters, you know, to travel and to do traveling, nursing, that way we can see the world; we can see the country, and we can also make an impact as well in other people's lives.

The advice that I would give to someone who, who may be considering their career in nursing is one, just do it. Don't allow other people's opinions or biases, you know, stop you from achieving your goal. You know, you're never too old to start over.

Since starting out at Rasmussen, I would say I’ve grown a lot as a person. That family atmosphere, that caring atmosphere that they have; it’s made me a better person.

It is truly an honor to stand before you today. Congratulations to the classes of 2024 and 2025. You've done it. Do I think it's a good idea for alumni to get involved? Absolutely. It presents a community where individuals can come together for a common goal and use each other as a resource. We need more of that. And I'd love to see the alumni community grow.

And I'll do whatever I can to make that happen. My journey to and through college was anything but traditional. I don't know if you know this, but I'm not a spring chicken. When I went back for my degree, I was apprehensive in general. I embraced what it was going to be for me, so it allowed me to really understand how to be comfortable with my own self while I'm doing my work and my studies.

Today I stand before you premium as the founder and owner of HR Compliance Solutions, LLC. I really feel that Rasmussen prepared me for this next step. Whatever age you are. Stay focused. Be prepared. Keep your eyes on the goal and remain positive. And reach out to your alumni. I have the confidence that I need from my degree program to walk into this next chapter of my life, and feel like I'm going to make it.

My name is Tonie Roby, and I'm a Rasmussen University alum.

Those core pieces of HR that I took away from Rasmussen don't change. They're adaptable to my clients. I have the confidence that I need for my degree program to walk into this next chapter of my life and feel like I'm going to make it.
