Minneapolis, MN (October 21, 2009) – Students working to become pharmacist assistants can now earn an Associate’s degree in two years through the Rasmussen College online Pharmacy Technician degree program. The fully online coursework brings together academic principles and practical skills development to teach students how to assist pharmacists in a wide variety of pharmacy settings within the healthcare system and prepare them for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Exam (PTCB).
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of pharmacy technicians is expected to increase by 32 percent between 2006 and 2016 - a faster than average increase. Degree-holding candidates typically have an edge over those who are uncertified and require training at the jobsite. Pharmacy technicians assist pharmacists in providing medication and filling prescriptions, in addition to administrative tasks in the pharmacy and work in a variety of settings, including retail or mail order pharmacies, hospitals, nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
“The demand for trained and certified pharmacy technicians continues to increase,” explained Lorrie Laurin, Director of the School of Allied Health at Rasmussen College. “The online Pharmacy Technician degree program at Rasmussen College can be completed fully online, allowing students to work towards a future career assisting pharmacists.”
The online nature of this new offering allows students to earn an Associate’s degree without sacrificing personal or professional responsibilities. The online Pharmacy Technician Associate’s Degree program is also available at Rasmussen’s Aurora, Ill., Rockford, Ill., Eagan, Minn., Mankato, Minn., St. Cloud, Minn., Ocala, Fla. and Pasco County, Fla., campuses.
The Associate’s in Pharmacy Technician is one of five online degree programs offered through the School of Allied Health at Rasmussen College. For additional information about Rasmussen College Online, visit www.rasmussen.edu/online/.
