Fargo (N. Dak.) — Rasmussen College Librarian, BethMarie Gooding, M.L.S., M.S., has been invited to present at the American Library Association National Conference in Chicago on July 12 in honor of her work on developing the first library in the Panyijiar region of Sudan.
Gooding is a reference and instruction librarian, and she is being honored for her work on the project, We're Going Home: The Lost Boys of Sudan and the Panyijiar County Library Project. The project is to develop the first library in the Panyijiar region of Sudan, an area that underwent a difficult civil war from 1984 until 2005.
Gooding has been working with the Panyijiar Community Development Services (PACODES), and official North Dakota nonprofit organization created to develop the Library Project since July 2008. She has been working to develop awareness of the Panyijiar County Library Project, aid in the development of the library, and plan for the successful utilization of resources.
The PACODES organization was founded by young survivors of this war, the "Lost Boys" many of whom now reside in the Fargo, North Dakota area.
