Twin Cities (MN) — The School of Justice Studies at Rasmussen College, has launched a Professional Peace Officer Education certificate (PPOE) program on six of its seven campuses in Minnesota.
The PPOE certificate program is certified by the Minnesota Peace Officer Standards and Training Board. In addition, a PPOE student at Rasmussen has the option to complete their entire AAS degree or certificate online.
This program is vital for students planning a career in law enforcement. Students who wish to participate in the certificate program must already have a regionally accredited two or four year degree, which is something no other program at Rasmussen requires. Also, all courses transferred into the program must be from regionally accredited schools.
CarieAnn Potenza, Director of the School of Justice Studies at Rasmussen College, is thrilled to offer this certificate program.
"This is really exciting because Rasmussen College is the only two-year private college in Minnesota that offers the Professional Peace Officer Education program," said Potenza.
Along with a completed degree, prospective students need to complete first responder training and the practical skills program. The skills program can be taken at Alexandria Technical College from May to July.
The PPOE certificate requires students to successfully complete 53 credits. For fulltime students, it will take three quarters (nine months) to complete and four quarters (12 months) for part-time students.
There is a wide range of courses students must take to complete the certification. The courses range from a basic computer information systems class to studying ethics in criminal justice. Having a well rounded education is something that Rasmussen College prides itself on.
Rasmussen College is opening its doors for enrollment for the PPOE certificate program in April. The six campuses that will offer the program are located in Eagan, Eden Prairie, Brooklyn Park, Lake Elmo, St. Cloud, and Mankato.
