EAGAN (Minn.)— As the only official Paralegal Certification testing site in Minnesota, the Rasmussen College Eagan campus will administer the National Certification Exam for Paralegals on March 20 and 21.
This two day exam allows graduates with a Paralegal Certificate, Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree to become Certified Legal Assistants (CLA) or Certified Paralegals (CP) through the National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA).
NALA is the leading professional association for legal assistants and paralegals, providing continuing education and professional development programs, according to www.nala.org.
During the current recession, many professions are struggling to find steady employment, but Paralegals are expected to have exceptional growth through 2016. From 2006-2016, Paralegal job opportunities are expected to grow 22 percent in the United States and 19 percent in Minnesota alone, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development respectively.
“The certification exam provides the Paralegal with an advantage in the job market,” said Liz Hurley-Felling, Paralegal Program Coordinator at Rasmussen College. “It demonstrates that the Paralegal has extensive content knowledge across a broad range of practice areas within the legal field. We are proud to provide this service to our students and any other Paralegal who wishes to sit for this exam.”
Before, Paralegals in Minnesota had to travel as far as Michigan or Nebraska to take the certification exam. By providing a testing facility in Minnesota, Rasmussen College has made opportunities available for people who live in the Upper Midwest.
The next exam will take place on July 24-25, 2009 and the registration deadline is May 30, 2009. Another exam will take place in December to round out the year.
