Minnesota College Certificate Program Prepares Students for Careers in Law Enforcement

MOORHEAD (Minn.) — Despite the recession, police officers and law enforcement officials continue to be in high
demand and will continue to be a staple in communities in Minnesota. From 2006-2016, there is estimated to be a 10
percent increase in law enforcement positions available in Minnesota, according to the Minnesota Department of
Employment and Economic Development.
Rasmussen College offers students the opportunity to complete their Minnesota Police Officer training through the
Professional Police Officer Education (PPOE) Certificate program. Graduates of the PPOE program will be eligible to
take the Minnesota State Peace Officer exam, after they complete the SKILLS portion of their training.
Once all of the criteria are complete, graduates will be eligible for positions in law enforcement within the state of
Minnesota.
CarieAnn Potenza, Director of the School of Justice Studies at Rasmussen College, is thrilled to offer this certificate
program.
“We are proud to be able to offer the PPOE certification in Minnesota,” said Potenza. “Students have the
opportunity to acquire this certificate and earn credits for a Bachelor’s degree at the same time, which could help
them when they enter the field of law enforcement.”
The PPOE Certificate program is certified by the Minnesota Peace Officer Standards and Training Board. In addition,
while students are in the PPOE program, they can take courses online toward earning a Criminal Justice Bachelor’s or
Associate’s degree.
