Rasmussen College campuses nationwide are teaming up with The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life in a “Power of Purple” movement to contribute to the fight against cancer and to help raise funds to aid in cancer research.
Last year, Rasmussen College raised $16,723 to aid the American Cancer Society in furthering the awareness of cancer, as well as to further empower individuals in the fight against cancer by increasing the public knowledge of the disease.
With funds raised through the Power of Purple movement, the American Cancer Society will be able to support researchers who have a hard time acquiring funding. So far, 42 of those researches aided by the American Cancer Society have gone on to win the Nobel Prize. The funding of these researchers has led to effective treatments such as chemotherapy, radiation, and bone marrow transplants that extend thousands of lives each year.
The research has also contributed to the recognized link between lung cancer and smoking, along with leading to the development of early detection methods for breast, cervical, colon, and prostate cancer.
“As a part of Rasmussen College’s commitment to our communities, we are proud to support the American Cancer Society in its fight against cancer,” Rasmussen College President Kristi Waite said. “We raised more than $16 thousand last year with the support of our students, staff, faculty, and community, and we look forward to increasing that number this year.”
